Post-Operative Instructions for Lip Reduction / Lip Lift Surgery

After Surgery:

Take all prescribed medications exactly as directed by your surgeon.
Apply cold compresses during the first 24–48 hours to help reduce swelling (as instructed by your surgeon).
Keep the incision clean and use the prescribed ointment or mouthwash if recommended.
Avoid touching, pressing, or stretching your lips.
Eat soft, cool, or lukewarm foods during the first few days. Avoid hot, spicy, or hard foods.
Drink plenty of water. Avoid using a straw if advised by your surgeon.
Avoid opening your mouth widely, excessive laughing, or any movement that may place tension on the sutures during the first week.
Refrain from smoking or using nicotine products for 4–6 weeks, as they can delay wound healing.
Do not apply lipstick or other cosmetic products to your lips until your surgeon approves.
Maintain good oral hygiene while avoiding direct contact with the surgical site.
Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments.

It Is Normal to Experience:

Swelling and bruising of the lips.
Mild pain or a feeling of tightness during the first few days.
Temporary numbness or reduced sensation.
Mild difficulty speaking or chewing during the first few days.

Contact Your Surgeon Immediately If You Experience:

Fever.
Heavy or persistent bleeding.
Yellow discharge or foul-smelling drainage from the incision.
Severe pain that is not relieved by prescribed pain medication.
Significant redness or rapidly increasing swelling.
Separation of the incision or opening of the stitches.

Most swelling typically subsides within 2–4 weeks, while the final results gradually become visible over 2–3 months. Following your surgeon's instructions and taking proper care of the incision will help promote faster healing and achieve the best cosmetic outcome.
